Week 3 Reflection: Teacher Reboot Camp by Shelly Sanchez Terrell
Shelly Sanchez Terrell is the author of the two books The 30 Goals Challenge for Teachers: Small Steps to Transform Your Teaching and Learning to Go: Lesson Ideas for Teaching with Mobile Devices, Cell Phones and BYOT. Shelly also trains teachers and has done so in more than 20 different countries, is an English language teacher, and an elearning specialist. Shelly's mission statement is “Let’s collaborate on strategies for engaging all our students through effective instructional methods and technology.”
Shelly's Teacher Reboot Camp site includes the tabs Home, About Me, Books, Survival Tips, Resources, 30 Goals, Events, and Book Me. Under the Survival Tips and Resources tabs, you will find many different web pages she has set up that provide information, tips, advice, and resources. I read through some of these and I found the "Classroom Management" and "Teaching Tips" pages to be very helpful as I prepare to start my first year of teaching. Shelly has founded something called The 30 Goals Challenge, and since January 2010, over 10,000 educators have taken on the challenge. To participate, educators can accomplish 1-30 of her short-term goals throughout the year and share a reflection with the 30 Goals community. The point of the challenge is to reflect on the goals you meet and how they aid in the accomplish of our long-term goals and ultimately making ourselves better educators. |
Teacher Reboot Camp would be a great site for every teacher to visit, whether you are a future teacher, current teacher, teacher looking to use technology in the classroom, or anything else. I will continue to visit her site as I build my knowledge and tips for teaching. I am continually looking for advice and resources, especially for beginning teachers, and Shelly's site offers those resources.
