Question 1: Discuss the two tools that were your personal favorites from the semester and why.
My two personal favorite tools we used in class this semester were iMovie and HSTRY. These were the two resources that I had the most fun making projects with. I can definitely see using both of these tools with my future students. I love iMovie because I have always been really interested in the making of films and everything that goes into it, so it didn't surprise me that I enjoyed working on the two projects we used iMovie for. I liked how the end product looked professional and fun. In my classroom I would use iMovie at the end of a unit. If I was doing a unit on cooking or baking, I would split my class into groups of about 4 people and have them create a trailer of a cooking show or movie where they teach us how to make something. I would have each group present their trailer/movie to the class. I really like the HSTRY website. I love how many options there are to customize your presentation and how easy it is to use. This is something I would use to teach my students and something I would have them use to create a project. I would make presentations with HSTRY and go over them as a class. We could learn together by reading the text, looking at the images and videos, and answering the quizzes and forums. I could use this in any unit, but if I was doing a unit on pregnancy, I would have my students use it as a timeline, since it is already set up in that way, and document what happens each month during pregnancy. I could split my students into either 3 or 9 groups (by trimester or month) and have them create a timeline complete with the timeline of events and the other tools like 'Did you know?' and quizzes. |

Question 2: Look back though your entire website at all you have learned. Reflect on what you have learned this semester. I have truly learned so much in this class about technology and how I can apply it in my classroom. Before taking this course, PowerPoint was my go-to option when I needed to create any type of presentation for a class. I now know of so many more educational technology resources that will change the way I learn and teach in the future. It surprised me that there are so many apps and websites that are great for students and teachers that I never knew about before. My WOW moment of the semester was when I would be working on a project and it was actually engaging/fun. Normally a class consists of taking notes, lecture, tests, and papers. I think that technology is a great way to turn that monotony around in the classroom. While looking through my projects and reflections I realized that this class has opened my eyes more to the benefits of using technology in the classroom. Not only did I previously not know about all of the available resources, but I also saw technology in the classroom as hassle and not worth the trouble. My mindset has completely changed as I have seen how easily technology can be used for the most part. I also love the creative aspect it brings to the table. I will use many things I learned this semester in my future classroom, and I am excited to know about so many awesome educational technology tools I will be able show my students. |
